Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is my breath of fresh air. It's my philosophy. When I read about how it understands human beings, something in me slows down… and reminds me of one of the most important things for a psychologist: humanity. Because, without it, any well-trained AI could do our job. But in psychology, it's not like that. We, human beings, are complex in a way that goes far beyond reason. We feel, we contradict ourselves, we get lost, we find ourselves… It's that saying: "human beings are complicated," despite the figure of speech, we are not static, finished things with an end. We become day after day. Life is an eternal process of becoming, and there is no "getting there," because the end is always an opening to the new. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which is also based on scientific evidence, reminds me of this all the time. It speaks of values, acceptance, psychological flexibility, authenticity, presence… of meaning in life. It's not about fighting what we feel, it's about learning to live with it, even with what hurts. As Caetano Veloso would say: "the pain and the delight of being who you are," and it's something for you to reflect on: what is the most beautiful part of being you? And what is the most difficult?
