When we talk about virginity, we immediately think about sex, and from the day we experience it, the world seems to lose its biggest mystery. We are no longer virgins - what an illusion of maturity. Virginity is a somewhat more elastic concept. We are virgins before coming home from school alone for the first time. We are virgins before the first sip of wine. We are virgins before visiting New York. We are virgins before our first paycheck. And we can be having sex for years and remain virgins in the face of a new love. As much as we have loved and hated, as much as we have been rejected, discarded, seduced, conquered, there is no repeatable love experience, as our passions are varied and our stages are different, and all this makes us novices. The pains, too, catch us unprepared. The pain of losing a friend is not the same as losing a car in a robbery, which in turn is not the same as losing the opportunity to declare yourself to someone, which on the other hand differs from the pain of losing your job. We are always surprised by what has not yet been experienced. Even in sex, we are virgins before a new scent, a new kiss, a fetish not yet realized. If we still don't wear red lingerie, if we haven't made love in the sea, if we still cultivate some taboos, what kind of know-it-all are we? I'm still a snow virgin, which I've seen static on top of mountains but never seen fall. I'm a virgin from Canada, from Turkey, from Polynesia. I'm a helicopter virgin, revolver, analysis, elevator sex, Harley Davidson, surgery, rafting, Neil Yong show, wisdom and march. Existential virginity accompanies us until the end of our days, especially in the last, as we are all chaste in the face of death, our ultimate unprecedented experience. Until it arrives, it's good to enjoy every minute of our innocence in front of the unknown, because it's an adventure as exciting as sex and it doesn't have the age to happen.
