Is it a legend? Or not ... The legend says that Don Juan had seduced a young girl of noble family of Spain: being very crazy, assassinated his father. Then, having found in a graveyard a statue of this, he had jokingly invited her to dinner, the invitation was happily accepted by the statue. His father's ghost there had also arrived, as a precursor to the death of Don Juan. The statue had asked him to shake her hand, and when he reached out, he dragged her to Hell. Most scholars argue that the first tale to record the story of Don Juan was El Burlador de Sevilla y Convidado de Piedra [the Trapeze of Seville and the Stone Guest]. The dates for this publication, however, range from 1620 to 1635, depending on the source - although there are other records of which have been known in Spain since 1615. According to this tale, Don Juan is an inveterate womanizer, who seduced women by disguising themselves as their lovers or promising them marriage. Behind you, leaves a trail of broken hearts until, finally, it ends up killing a certain Don Gonzalo. When later he is invited by the ghost of this one to a dinner in a cathedral, ends up accepting, not wanting to look like a coward. The visions of the legend vary according to the opinions on the character of Don Juan, presented within two basic perspectives. According to some, he was a cheap, concupiscent, cruel seducer, who sought only conquest and sex. Others claim, however, that he did indeed love the women he conquered, and that he was truly capable of finding the inner beauty of the woman. The primitive versions of the legend always portray it as in the first case.
